UAG and Fundación IRAUy sign agreement to develop a research project

As part of UAG’s Corporate Social Responsibility Program, on January 17th at Casco Patricio, the company signed an agreement with Fundación IRAUy, the winner of UAG’s “Research, Innovation Development Ideas” open tender.

Through this agreement Fundación IRAUy, which is focused on animal reproduction research in Uruguay, will receive from UAG the necessary funding for the development of a 2 years long research project to produce ovine embryos in vitro to be frozen, which will facilitate this technique dissemination in a commercial scale.

Great wheat harvest and good soybeans sowing season

UAG has finalized an excellent wheat harvest, with high yields that far exceeded what was originally budgeted. Simultaneously with the wheat harvest, soybeans were seeded, totaling a much higher sown area than the previous year, reinforcing UAG’s growth path for all of its different production activities.

UAG has finished sowing its rice

UAG has finished sowing its rice at all of its farms. Even though we had a tough seeding season beginning due to excess rain, UAG teams at the farms managed to sow a total of approximately 4,475 hectares of rice. Some of those rice fields are already receiving irrigation in order to make sure the crop has a vigorous and fast development. Simultaneously, soybeans sowing and wheat harvesting have started.

UAG has acquired two farms adjacent to previously owned properties

UAG has signed the acquisition of two new properties that will be part of Region 1 on the NE.

Both farms are located at Rivera near to the Brazilian border.

La Pradera is a 1,399 hectares farm adjacent to UAG’s farm Arroyo Blanco. With this new acquisition the company will have 5,000 hectares that will work all together as a single farm increasing operational efficiency.

UAG has acquired a significant stake in Casarone Agroindustrial

UAG has acquired a 19.6% stake of Casarone Agroindustrial.

Casarone owns two farms on the NE of Uruguay which together account for more than 20,000 hectares of land suitable for rice and cattle productions. On average the company sows 7,000 hectares of rice per year on these farms, under a pasture-rice rotational system.

Additionally, the company is vertically integrated, owning the facilities necessary to process 220,000 tons of rough rice per year. This positions Casarone as the second main rice exporter

100% of UAG’s Cattle with Traceability

During July, UAG finished the traceability of 100% of its cattle older than 6 months old. This means that all of UAG’s cattle have been identified with an ear-tag with an individual identification number and bar code and with a chip.

This work is part of the National Cattle Information System’s (SNIG in Spanish) program, through which Uruguay became the first country in the world to have 100% of its cattle with traceability, generating commercial advantages in the international markets.

Progress with the wheat sowing

We finished the wheat sowing in San Francisco, San Luis and Arroyo Blanco. We were able to sow 100% of the hectares planned. So far, wheat has grown and developed successfully.

On the other hand, we continue with the wheat sowing in every other property where we have this crop. We have sowed more than 70% of the hectares planned and we expect to finish the sow by the end of june 2011.

New land acquisition

We have acquired our second property at the province of Treinta y Tres. It´s name is La Quemada and has a surface of 918 hectares. Our main activities there will be pastures and forage crops for cattle breeding.

We have begun the wheat sowing season

At this date, 3rd June 2011, we have sown more than half of the wheat area planned for this year. Sowing started at La Beba and La Victoria properties, and was continued two weeks later in the other properties in which we have this crop. It is estimated that this task will finish by the end of June 2011.

Completion of the soybean and rice harvest

Last may 2011 we completed the harvest of soybean and rice for this year. Rice productivity was very good, keeping time with the moment when Uruguay obtained the largest volume of rice crop in history.
