Last December UAG started with the embryo transfer program using Braford embryos imported from a very well internationally recognized pure bred farm in Australia. The Braford breed offers two important advantages for beef production: excellent body gain on pastures during the first stage of growing, and a very efficient performance in feedlot, reaching the live weight required by the most exigent international markets with the highest beef quality standards.
Three months ago, when this project begun, our veterinarian Fernando Fabini and a professional team prepared the female receptors on their nutrition and health to get them ready for the transfer. After that, the steps were: ultrasound scan to appreciate if the embryos were suitable for insemination, evaluation of the ovules and finally the embryo transfer operation.

The final objective is to improve the genetic of the national beef herd composed by Hereford an Angus cows. Female Braford calves will be part of UAG elite cow herd for embryo transfer, using high quality semen from superior bulls. On the other hand, male calves will be the future bulls for our own commercial herd and the extra ones will be disseminated within cooperation herds where cross breed calves will be used for our intensive beef production system.

The success of this activity will differentiate UAG from Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay because we will have an exclusive core at the region. On January 22nd, 2010 a new ultrasound scan will be done. The results of the studies will determinate how the rest of the embryos will be implanted.
